What happens when we stop treating the wild as something to fear and start learning how to live intelligently within it?
In this conversation, Daniel and his wife Avani Vitalis draw on more than a decade of living in tick country to explore what it means to develop a deeper awareness of the landscape around us. From Avani’s first unforgettable encounter with 13 ticks to their daily checking rituals, caring for their dogs, and learning to spot and even feel ticks, they share the practical habits that allow them to spend more time outdoors without living in fear. This is ultimately a conversation about developing sensitivity, accepting the realities of the natural world, and learning how to remain connected to nature even when it comes with challenges.

She taught children for 19 years in the Montreal public school system and has taught the last 7 years privately from her home in the Lakes Region of Maine. A lifelong athlete, she competed across Canada in several swimming disciplines, most notably as a synchronized swimmer.
