Wilbur Hot Springs ~ A Water Like No Other!!!

I am just back from a month on the road, touring and teaching across California! It is constantly amazing to me, being from the east coast, just how geologically active that part of the world is!

My trip began in Hollywood and ended at Mt Shasta, and this trip if done right is something like a spiritual pilgrimage! Along the way I made a point to visit as many HotSprings as I could find, and each one had its own unique qualities and properties. Not all Springs are created equal, and I must say, of all I visited while there one stands out in my mind.

Wilbur Hot Springs! Just 2.5 hours North East of the Bay, this is a great place to take a break from city living, or for anyone who loves to Spring Jump around the World!  This Water is Raw, Alive, and untreated, and flows into the pools (the “fluminarium” as this style is called) just as they flow from the Earth.  There is a bit of a cooling that is allowed before they enter the pools so as to prevent serious burns, but no chlorination, ozonation or any other denaturing technology is used!

This is a truly unique source, rich in both Sulfur and Sodium Chloride, as well as….  something unidentified.  I am guessing it is a naturally occurring Petroleum Oil of some kind.  It leaves a silky coat on your skin, and adds dramatically to the exotic experience of Wilbur’s enchanted grounds.

There is a 140 degree F hotspring geyser that erupts every 44 minutes, and over 1,800 acres of private nature preserve to explore.  The valley is totally concealed from civilization, and its nestled into its Napa Valley-like hills are the solar panels that power this off grid facility.

There is a gigantic public commercial sized kitchen, and as a guest you are given your own cupboard and refrigerator shelf.  This means that no matter what your diet you can take care of yourself in a very comfortable environment!

Also, unlike some of the other Hot Springs I visited in California, Wilbur has the feel of the Sacred without being the culty experience of some of the Hot Spring “churches” (legal spiritual communities) around the State.

The grounds have been decorated in a Zen theme that creates an ideal blank canvass for you to paint your own experience upon! In the gift shop they sell the dehydrated salts of the Waters there, which have now found their way into my kitchen at home!

Enjoy these videos, and visit these springs as soon as you can!

Be sure to check out the upcoming Eden Hot Springs retreat in Arizona April 28th through May 2nd, and if your ready join us in what is perhaps the most transformative environment on Earth!

Thanks as always for reading and for watching!

Bless!

~Daniel

  • Daniel as a result of findaspring I was planning a special trip to Mount Shasta. I am currently getting spring water from the Morro Bay spring. I love your site and the whole idea. Thank you. I have just come across some rather disturbing information about Mountain Shasta that I wanted your opinion.

Here is the link where I found this information. http://truthmediaproductions.blogspot.com/2010/03/what-in-world-are-they-spraying-part-ii.html

This has to do with Chemtrails and contamination of the Mount Shasta area with aluminum and barium. Normal aluminum content is 7ppb USDA intervenes at 1000 PPB Dr. Mengals test shows Mount Shasta soil and snow at 61,000ppb of aluminum. This is very alarming. I am rethinking my trip. Could you please comment on this for me. I would like your opinion. thank you.
  • their? THEIR? Oh me oh my, my grammar loving cohorts will be spinning in their future graves! I believe I meant, "They are". Whoopsie! Pardon that!
  • Their all natural! =) From the source they all exist that way.... but some have had communities that were built up around them for centuries, like Wilbur... it just naturally developed into a model of sustainability. Without the hotel, it's possible they would have been overrun and destroyed.... I am not sure you know this, but Wilbur Hot Springs is the only reversed developed place I can think of.... it used to have 100's and 100's of mining buildings, operations, etc.... the pollution there would rival the sprawl of a small city. Now it's just the one or two, and the maintaining isn't cheap. But here's more info about that history... with more to come! http://wilburhotsprings.blogspot.com/2009/10/little-bit-of-history-for-all-you.html

That being said, there are plenty of options in and around Northern California for free Springs. Depending on where you are coming from...

Off the 395, in a little town called Bridgeport, you will find a place called Buckeye Campground. There are some great hot springs there! Here is some more info: http://www.gonomad.com/destinations/0409/hot_springs_of_the_sierras.html There are a couple other decent ones in that link, as well.

You might also wish to try Sykes in Big Sur. It is a *GREAT* example when a wonderful, natural resource is overrun with well intentioned enthusiasts, and was the first time I was educated on why maintaining and charging for springs might be a wise move compared to allowing overzealous humans to encroach on a non regulated natural area. It is wonderful, they are beautiful, but they do get crowded!

It is in Big Sur, and a 21 round trip mile hike with crazy elevation gains. It isn't for the out of shape or weak hearted, especially as the first 3 full miles in in straight up with switchbacks the whole way. But it is paradise, and you will be happy to have checked them out:

In Big Sur, off Hwy 1, just past Julia Pfieffer Burns campground heading south, turn left into "Big Sur Station". Park all the way in the south lot and strap on your gear! If you get there midweek it won't be as bad, but on weekends expect the trail to be overrun. I would suggest hiking in halfway with gear, pitching tent, then hike the roundtrip 10 miles to Sykes for a day tip.

If you ever have any questions about this sort of stuff, let me know! I am at wilburhotsprings@gmail.com. If you let me know where your starting point is, I can quickly find you the best free spots.

I completely understand what you mean tho... these are resources that should be available to all! It is sad that it is our nature to consume (it has been since our tribes roamed the plains and moved on when we fed from the land and depleted it. It is our contradiction, and something we are slowly becoming aware of as a species) - and you can't always trust the pattern of human consumption to responsibly and ethically use a natural resource..... They all have their own space in this amazing natural world... but I am an advocate of private springs for those capable of respecting them, since seeing the wanton carelessness of greens, backpackers, naturalists, and the like. It is quite the conundrum. In that respect, wherever and whenever I go anywhere, I pick up trash, and try to remove disturbance.

Cheers... I could ramble about this all day!

    Hey Daniel,
So great to see you at Wilbur. I worked their every month for 6 years doing massage back in the late 90's. I often thought that black substance seemed like crude oil as well. Some guests (not all) would get it on the bottom of their feet when soaking. Like it was reacting with something in their body.
We saw you on your recent tour (in Sacramento, Ca... of all places). We are traveling and currently in the desert regions of Southern CA near Palm Springs and Desert Hot Springs. Very amazing hiking around these beautiful landscapes and Oasis'.

    Hey Shira!

Can you put some of those hotsrpings from there on www.findaspring.com?

I spent some time out in that area, but had a hard time finding a natural source. Seems they were all piped into hotels.

Find anything out there that was outside and natural?

    ~D
  • shira7
    Daniel,
Yes, we also are unable to find a natural hotspring source here in the CA
desert near Palm Springs, they all seem to be developed.
Since it is quite warm here at present, we have been jumping in all the wild
water we can find, it is ice cold and refreshing. Lots of faults here that
open up to allow water to the surface, seems very high in minerals. We
filtered some and drank. There is also snow melt coming down near the Aqua
Caliente region with amazing waterfalls and swimming holes.

In Joshua Tree, we found a spring water source, we will try to post exact
location when we head up there again. It is a bit tricky to find.
Learning lots about what the natives ate in these regions...there is sooo
    much, I had no idea.
Continuing to hike, explore, immerse in nature at it's finest.
    See you on the path,
    Shira

  • If you are speaking of Cottonwood Springs - you have mentioned one of my favorite places EVER! Walking into a literal oasis of Palm Trees in the middle of the beautiful desert ecosystem is so -- moving! I haven't camped down there in years, but from the Dunes to Hole in the Wall all over Lower Mojave, etc.... it's some of the most beautiful places ever! Here's a link to the hike: http://www.desertusa.com/roadtripblog/?p=75
  • Cheerio dear sir! Back *on* topic! I have an answer to your thick oil like substance.... and a special, salutatory note from Dr. Miller, our founder and dear friend!
    --------------------------

A black, tar like, material can be seen in the mud around the Wilbur Hot Springs source springs. You cannot see this black material in the hot water since it is dissolved; however, you can smell a very mild petroleum like odor in Wilbur's medicinal mineral water along with the smell of sulfur, a well known, and established, anti bacterial agent. I have witnessed dramatic reductions in the symptoms of Psoriasis at Wilbur Hot Springs. My research led me to the following article from the renowned Mayo Clinic.

    Treatments and drugs
    By Mayo Clinic staff

    Psoriasis treatments aim to:

    * Interrupt the cycle that causes an increased production of skin cells, thereby reducing inflammation and plaque formation.
    * Remove scale and smooth the skin, which is particularly true of topical treatments that you apply to your skin.

    Topical treatments
Used alone, creams and ointments that you apply to your skin can effectively treat mild to moderate psoriasis.

    * Coal tar. A thick, black byproduct of the manufacture of petroleum products and coal, coal tar is probably the oldest treatment for psoriasis. It reduces scaling, itching and inflammation. Exactly how it works isn't known. Coal tar has few known side effects, but it's messy, stains clothing and bedding, and has a strong odor. Coal tar is available in over-the-counter shampoos, creams and oils.

In addition, Daniel Vitalis personally assimilated the depth of the respectful and non cult atmosphere that we have created at Wilbur. He is to be commended, and thanked, for his making Wilbur a subject of his professional, guerrilla, video journalism.

    ---------------------------------------------------

So there ya go! It isn't a manufactured version of coal tar so much as a coal biproduct from deep within the earth. This is also not completely tested... and is basically our assumption. It is an amazing thing, what mother earth brings us. Amazing how the more we learn, the more we understand simplicity and source is key!

I just wanted to drop a note again, so thank you from everyone at Wilbur Hot Springs, and hope this finds you happy, healthy and well!

    CHEERS SIR!

    Michael at Wilbur.

    Daniel,

I wanted to share my thoughts about the Raw Water thing that's going on, and show some support, even though it's off the topic of this thread (sorry for that).

First, I recognized the naming of Raw Water as an effort to put into perspective the opinion of many that water is raw, and living, as most people don't think of water in that way. I may be wrong on your intention behind that, but being familiar with your work, that's how I percieved it from the get go.

Second, in regards to the cost that some take issue with. What I don't get is why they're singling out your product, when so many things in this world are too expensive for most, even in the raw food world? Not only are products like marine phytoplankton too expensive for most, but the reality is that the general population views organic produce as too expensive. Does that mean the organic farmers should just close up shop and give up, even though there ARE people who can afford to go organic (and keep them in business)?

The bottom line imo is that not everything is for everyone. I can't afford a luxury car or a luxury home, or even ALOT of the raw food products/supplements that I would like to try. Should I be mad at the manufacturers of everything I want, but can't afford? I don't know what world they're living in. Especially since findaspring.com gives people free info on where to get high quality water for free!

Again, I can't figure out where they're coming from on that. I was definitely surprised by it though.

Anyway, take it easy, and may The Creator guide you.

    Erik...
  • danielvitalis
I am in total agreement. SOme people pay $5 for a bottle of wine, some pay $10,000. It is all about the persons preference, budget, and desire and recognition of quality!
  • Thank you and cheers to you sir.... you have no idea how special it is to see people *TRULY* understand Wilbur, and to help others to experience precisely what you spoke of... I only ended up working with Wilbur because I became passionate about it, and undertstood what you experienced.... it resonated to the core of my being. With the 1800 acre nature preserve in addition, I cannot imagine a more wholesome and cleansing space. The other aspect is that so many hot springs are about *THEIR* experience, cult, or what they want you to believe, and Wilbur is the only place where I can have *MY* experience, unfiltered and unimpeded. It is also one of the few places in the world I have been able to reconnect with my HUMAN. So if you don't mind me placing a link or two for those who wish to know more, I just wanted to help further share our offerings!!! Being 100% off grid, 100% solar powered, and with no cell signal or computer hook ups, it is one of the few places left that you can be, truly, undisturbed. We are doing it all, of course, trying to reach out when we can actually be online: http://www.twitter.com/wilburhotspring as well as our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Williams-CA/Wilbur-Hot-Springs-Historic-Lodge-Mineral-Baths-Nature-Sanctuary/93276970212?ref=mf.

One thing you mentioned was the curious nature of our water.... I don't want to bore you with science and stats, but we have EXTREMELY high levels of lithium in our waters, and that definitely enhances the experience beyond the physiological. It is an amazing feeling, one that has kept me coming back for years. Thank you so much for all your kind words and help with letting people know about our wonderful little Springs! The earth supplies the majesty and we simply commune around it with whomever wishes to share. So please... don't hesitate to contact me with any further questions.... wilburhotsprings@gmail.com. Hope this finds you well!

ANOTHER comment from me, tee, hee. They do not publicize this but if you visit during your Birthday month, and let them know, you get 25% discount on the cost of your stay :-)
  • MA DH UR I:
    P L A T I N U M I N F O R M N A T I O N

I am just a beginner but I think I'll take them up on that offer.

As I am mainly teaching gentle moves like opening of Major joints to remove any blockages that would open the floodgates of free flow energy,
I would love to pass through this W awareness...

...however self taught thus practice without "LICENCE" do you

believe Wilbur will still grant me that free stay you tell of?*

*I AM GETTING INTO THE SPIRIT of HOBBITS and WIZARDS :)

Daniel: +How are we doin' on the nick name list...

+I must say I fancy the idea of Ernesto's notion that "I would make it my goal to see you teach and speak about everything you have done so far" in NYC
  • madhuriflynn
Hey Doraw, what I suggest is to go there and meet them, and offer your services. They seem to have a small list of steady teachers they use each year. But I first got to teach there because I was going as a guest and the scheduled teacher had to cancel last minuet so they asked if I would like to teach. Make a connection and if it is meant to be it will come together. Best OM madhuri
  • madhuriflynn
    @Ernesto Aguila
You can go live and work at Wilbur for a few months, many people do. Or longer if you wish. I have met some great souls just taking a long pause from city life, it is doable, :-) you have the chance.
  • madhuriflynn
A real nice addition to the Wilbur experience is that from Beginning of May till end of October, most weekends, there are complimentary Yoga classes on the hill side Yoga Deck. Saturday a.m. & p.m. and Sunday a.m., no extra charge to guests.

As a teacher you get a free stay plus you can bring a guest, excellent trade if you ask me, as time there is worth MY weight in Gold.

I'm an old timer and have been teaching there for about 7 years, they like me :-). I was thinking how Wilbur would be a great place for you to offer an event next time you tour CA, maybe, as they have various event there throughout the year.

Crystal Dawn: I think Daniel is not a Hobbit [from the word "Holbytla" which translates "hole-dweller"] but more like a wizard.
At least that's what I've been telling my 4 year old :)

Wizard: a person that is aware of his or her surroundings and is able to control the environment with a mere thought. This person usually has a great deal of understanding of how things in this world operate, how people think and act, and how to comminicate on all levels with people and animals. Wizards are spiritual in their own way. They seem to be at peace with themselves, and they do not entertain immaturity. Yet they have a great deal of patience. Wizards are usually solitary because of how rare they are. If you know a Wizard, you will know that they are respectful, honorable, and compassionate and are a fountain of useful information.

I feel fortunate to happen to know a true Wizard!

So glad you got to soak at Wilbur, Daniel!

Some years ago I visited there and like you, I was especially struck by the unusual and intense odor and curious viscosity of the water. The smell kind of reminded me of diesel fuel, but soaking in that water was amazing and felt so incredible that I actually came to really like its strangely petroleumy smell.

I'll never forget Wilbur. When we arrived, after a long hot drive, we left the top down on our convertible rental car and went inside to check in. Moments later we went back out to the car only to discover a bunch of our food was missing! An eyewitness then told us that she had seen raccoons pilfering several choice items from the provisions we brought with us to eat while we were there. :-O We knew for sure right then that we were far from man's dominion and well out into the realm of Mother Nature!

Evidently Colusa County, where Wilbur is located, has been known for its wealth of minerals, among them gold, quicksilver and petroleum. I did some searching online and found that at least one spring in the area (maybe Wilbur?) was once actually called 'Oil Spring,' so I'm thinking you're spot on about there being some sort of crude oil seepage from the springs.

Do you by any chance have copies of Marjorie Gersh-Young's two guidebooks? If not, you need to get them! They're called "Hot Springs and Hot Pools of the Southwest" and "HS&HP of the NW." They're based on original research done by a bigtime hot spring enthusiast named Jason Loam, (aka the 'King of the Hot Springs) and are chock full of information about and directions to loads of hot mineral springs all over North America - both developed and semi-developed, as well as a good number that are totally wild. Those two books are the best resources I've yet found on hot springs in the US and Canada.

Thanks so much for your good work and for all these cool videos, Daniel! Great stuff!! :)
  • madhuriflynn
So happy to see these beautiful videos, been wanting some more magic, THANK YOU.

Rad videos! If you get to the bottom of the oil I would love to hear more about it.

And your mention about being away from the cellphone towers and mircowaves made me suddenly quite aware of my environment at home. I really do feel the stress from EMF's on a regular basis.

Wilbur Wonderful! Hope to visit there one day soon.
  • Yes, for sure I do! Going in and out of "range" makes the feelings obvious... I feel it like stress, like to much current in my nervous system and crossed signals in my neocortex!

    Wilbur was such peace!

I love to get away from the towers... the "Eye of Sauron"!
  • Daniel,
Thanks for sharing your terrific adventure to Wilbur hot springs. I've been to Harbin, but haven't made it to Wilbur yet. With this you've made Wilbur very enticing! The colors of the landscape had me swooning.
Great idea to add hot springs to the findaspring map ... wonderful!

    In joy ~)
  • Go Raw,

That was just the beginning! The place is far more interesting than I showed!

    You gotta go!
  • Ernesto Aguila
By the way, are you planning to visit NY again? if so, please post that. I would make it my goal to see you teach and speak about everything you have done so far =) Thank u!
  • Ernesto Aguila
This place is one of the many paradises that iv'e only seen so far. Daniel, I'm surprised that you haven't relocated to these awesome places that you have visited through out your journey =) I would move in a heart beat from the city to there if I were given the chance =/
  • Ernesto,

I live at the foot of the tallest mountain in the north east... it is so nice here, and I just keep coming back!

NY is a tough one! Hehehehee!

Keep your eyes on my events page, I will come through eventually!

Thanks for being so present on this site!

Thanks Daniel for all your awesomely amazing videos! They are an inspiration to all and have really helped to bring awareness to all the wonderful gifts our Earth has to offer! Thanks for lighting the path, brother!

    Peace and gratitude.
    -Geof
  • Of course Geof! Its easy when you love it!
  • Geof and I watched these these videos together while talking on skype. We daydreamed about being there on that land, and in that water.

I love the sacred masculine essence of the geyser.

I can feel the EMF stress that charges the air, and remember what if feels like to be in places like that where it isn't happening. It does feel like a relief.

I don't like to travel but this place really draws me. Perhaps we will wind up there. Thank you so much Sarah and Daniel for sharing it with us.

I'm excited that findaspring.com is going to expand into hot springs as well! Thank you for that amazing resource!
  • Your Welcome Lauren!

Thanks for all your continued support!

    ~Daniel
  • Lauren
Daniel! My cousin got married at Wilbur 5 years ago, before I was into all this goodness. Bummer that I wasn't ready to take advantage of such beauty! :( I'll have to make a trip soon! Lookin forward to Eden!
  • Lauren,

What! Ha! I guess you will have to make the journey! Eden is far more primal, get ready!
